Menkes Developments Ltd, The Whitfield

Project Summary
The Whitfield is a 39-storey tower containing 484 residential units nestled in the heart of the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood of Toronto. Situated on a prominent corner of downtown Toronto at Front and Sherbourne Street, the building stands out between the brick-and-mortar streets of the historic neighbourhood with its curvaceous, sculptural tower: the curved façade is articulated by horizontal masonry “ribbons” decorating the podium, and vertical terracotta-toned ‘fins’ embellishing the tower volume. The Whitfield blends modern design with historic context incorporating preserved, historically designated facades, seamlessly operating at three different scales at all times: street, neighbourhood, and city.
